7: An interpreter other that a family member of friend that speaks your
language
Legal / Immigrant Rights
The laws in the United States of America are
different and can protect women. You have a right to..
1: Ask for help and / or information from the police and court system
2: Speak to someone without your partner present
3: Keep your children with you even if you leave the home of you abuser
4: Ask for and get a protective order
5: Seek legal advice at anytime
6: Your spouse or partner can NOT have you deported, only immigration
can do this.
You will not be automatically deported after seeking help. You have the
right to be treated with dignity and respect no matter what your immigration
status!
Safety Strategies
Know where the telephone is located and different
ways to leave the home.
Talk to you children about safety planning and create a code word to signal
the need to leave quickly
Make arrangements to have a place to stay with a trusted person.

During a Violent Incident
Call 911 if you feel you are in danger (Ask for
an interpreter if need be)
Avoid areas with possible weapons (kitchen, bathroom)
Avoid rooms with few exits
If possible, escape through an exit and yell or make noises
